Potty Mouth Music NEW RELEASE: TJR feat DJ Gant-Man ‘Juke It’ OUT NOW ++ Free Tunes, Mixes
27 01 2011Producer TJR is a master in the art of creative adaptability. Since relocating to Los Angeles from the East Coast in 2010, the artist who built his name in the acid house and techno scenes is striking a balance between his signature quirky basslines and dance floor inspired vocals.
Now his latest release on L.A.-based Potty Mouth Music resonates the same musical message. In joining creative forces with legendary, Chicago Juke vocalist DJ Gant-Man, the two hatched the “Juke It” EP (PMM036), an electro-influenced romp of fun, funk and the signature Potty Mouth bump that keeps dance floors hot, sweaty and nasty, just like the vocals themselves.
“Gant has been on my radar for a while, and I’ve always envisioned a track with juke-influenced vocals over a bouncy electro groove,” says TJR, whose collaboration marks his first PMM release since May 2009’s “Eat, Sleep, Breathe” EP (PMM025) .“As a vocalist, Gant has a great flow and comes up with catchy lyrics that makes you wanna get down and dirty.”
It’s that flow paired with the TJR’s tight, production bounce that makes “Juke It” an infectious booty burner brimming with big-bounce moments and the occasional breakdown, sending dance floors into frenzies.
For TJR, the release is another step in a continued creative direction that saw him releasing more original tracks in the past year versus his the remixes and bootlegs that have partially defined his artistic style. For TJR, the process keeps him evolving with dance music’s own seemingly schizophrenic scene.
“I love thinking about this time last year and how much things have changed,” TJR says. “It’s so difficult to figure what’s going to be next . . . Personally, with something like booty house, I’ve always loved it, because it’s fun–and if there was ever a genre that didn’t take itself too seriously, it’s booty and juke.”
PMM’s “Juke It” EP is laughing–and hitting dance floors–just as hard. A purebred Potty Mouth cut, the original and remix exude the kind of electro swagger that has come to define the label’s sound
“Potty Mouth was one of the first ‘fidget’ labels in 2007, which is a long time in the ADD-driven dance music world,” adds TJR, who has also recorded for Fool’s Gold and Wearhouse Music in the 2010. “‘Juke It’ certainly fit’s the evolving sound and direction of the label, which has a reputation for DJ-friendly tracks that are the highlights of a lot of sets. That’s what I have in mind when working on projects for the label.”
TJR returns to Potty Mouth Music with DJ Gant-Man on the “Juke It” EP (PMM036), will be available exclusively on Beatport for the first 4 weeks – buy it now!

Santiago & Bushido Seize Potty Mouth Spotlight on “This Sound” EP
PMM035 includes two original tracks, “Soundz” and “Step Right In”
CHICAGO— When it comes to stepping right in, Chicago production originals Santiago & Bushido are no strangers to the spotlight. And when it comes to bringing big beats, their latest EP for Los Angeles-based, Chicago inspired Potty Mouth Music delivers the electro house sounds that has solidified them as PMM roster mainstays.
Featuring fuzzed out vocals and tribal tinged grooves, “This Sound” EP (PMM035) thumps as double-bill ode to the darker side of summer nights. “Soundz” and “Step Right In” include the signature S&B build-up that chugs to a pinnacle before dropping audiences into wild, rave-frenzied ride.
“We wanted to give this EP a nostalgic vibe while thinking forward creatively at the same time,” Santiago says of their newest PMM release. “Both tracks have a darker groove but are still big sounding anthem tracks that play perfectly to the mid-summer stride.”
Dance anthems are nothing new to S&B, who propelled the PMM label to success back in 2008 with their Beatport.com, chart-topping track “Head Trick.” Since then, the duo has gone to polish remixes for some of dance music biggest names, including a Kaskade’s Billboard No. 1 hit single “Move for Me” and Larry Tee’s “Louis Vuitton.”
On “This Sound” EP, S&B let a breathy vocal set the pace on “Soundz,” a murky, tribal trek through rave days gone by. On “Step Right In,” the duo flips the script for a more simple structure of sounds that resonates with steady, constant bump. With tribal thump setting the pace, the track rolls with a constant, building groove.
As DJs, S&B draw influence from their Chicago house background and apply harder and heavier elements to their sound. The duo is regularly headlining and appearing at some of the most widely attended parties in the US and beyond including Avalon in Los Angeles, Decibel Festival in Seattle, and Bed in Miami.
Their latest PMM release is more proof that one of Chicago’s most recognized names in dance music has no intention of slowing their groove any time soon.
“As long as people are dancing we will still be making music–tribal, techy, funky, house, whatever influences at the moment. All of it has a huge impact on our style as artists, where ever it manages to fit into our tracks,” Santiago says.
“This Sound” EP (PMM035) will be available exclusively on Beatport for the next four weeks and then available for purchase on iTunes.

HiJack VS Santiago & Bushido: Way Back EP
19 01 2010Just landed in my mailbox!
CHICAGO—What happens when three of Potty Mouth Music’s most established producers team up in their first ever studio collaboration? Think samples, synths and instrumentation galore. The end result is “Way Back EP,” a four-track mix of house, percussive and peak-hour grooves that draw influences from the distinct styles of PMM’s Jon Chant (HiJack) and Chris Santiago and Tim Bushido (Santiago & Bushido).
The inception of PMM 033 dates back to spring 2009, when UK-native HiJack toured the States on the strength of his “Jackpot” (PMM05) and “Keep It Real”(PMM 022) EPs. Between gigs, he caught up with Chicago-based production duo Santiago & Bushido and settled in for some studio time.
“The result was Way Back, which is a track all three of us made together,” Bushido says.
A series of overseas emails soon yielded two remixes—one completely done by HiJack and another styled solely by S&B. “Putting it Down,” the EP’s other original track, was also crafted through a collaborative series of audio exchanges. “Jon started it and got the core of the track—we beefed it up a bit and added our trademarks to it and mixed it down,” Bushido says.
The EP’s original title track pays homage to HiJack’s quirky hooks and heavy grooves while S&B add their signature build-up to the sound. The classic, a cappella house vox pulses with an organic groove framed by the backdrop of synths and drums. On the remix tip, HiJack takes a stripped down house approach, showcasing a vocal sample that sums the track best: “We used to jack our body to the beat.”
For their remix of the title track, S&B bring back the sound that made them famous on PMM releases including “For What EP” (PMM04) and “For the People” (PMM10). Huge club build-ups, insane breakdowns, and dark, driving synths give their version of “Way Back” plenty of big room bite. The trio polishes off the EP with the unexpected “Putting it Down,” a collaborative effort that spun some house-heavy results.
“It’s definitely a groover for house heads with some fresh samples and chunky beats,” HiJack quips.
As veteran roster mainstays, HiJack and Santiago & Bushido say “Way Back EP” stays true to the Potty Mouth sound while bringing a fresh sound to label and club fans alike.
“We’re three of Potty Mouth’s core artists who are bringing tracks together that are dirty but still keep that house groove,” Bushido says. “And the remixes give you more of what we are doing independently as artists—which is always something new.”
“Way Back EP” is now available exclusively on beatport.com for the next four weeks.

POTTY MOUTH: Matthew Garton ‘Soul For Rent Ep’
27 12 2009Matthew Garton knows how to have a good time.
From quirky vocal overlays to bouncy basslines, his music reflects his style both in the studio and on the decks. This time Garton is shaking up the sound of Los-Angeles based Potty Mouth Music, putting an eclectic stamp of house, tech and funk into one five-track package. “Soul for Rent EP” (PMM032) not only marks the producer’s PMM debut, but also brings another new vibe to an already multi-dimensional roster of sound.
With the new vibe comes the new PMM talent of Matthew Garton. Born in Brighton, England and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Garton is widely known within the underground house community as one half of DJ/production duo Rotation Station (with partner Roger Aquino). While house forms the backbone of his sound, his influences range widely from jazz and Latin to funky house and filtered disco. Pops of tech, electro and progressive all help define much of his production catalogue in the past five years, which has landed on the label likes of Buzz Cut, Junky Trunk and Destination, to name a few.
“This EP represents all the styles of house that I love,” Garton says of his PMM debut. “It almost feels like I’ve drawn on influences from the past and then reworked them into more current interpretations.”
The EP’s title track “Soul for Rent” melds funk, stark synths and distorted vocals into one bounce-driven groove. South African electro house producer Geoff K speeds up the tempo for his remix, padding the bass while taking the track to a deeper, fuller place.
Adding to the EP is “Candy Whacked,” a dirty tech fueled groove with all the peaks and valleys of a 2 a.m. banger. “Pretty Surprise” brings Garton’s quirky house influences to forefront, with help from a funky bass guitar and cheeky vocals by Bladwin Blaq. “One Love” rounds out the EP with its startling mix of synth driven sounds the build into a dreamy, soulful breakdown. Swing jazz drums and tick-tock bass pumps create stand out noise for the equally stand out track.
Look for his Garton’s influences of Fat Boy Slim, The Greenskeepers, Switch, Basement Jaxx, Frank Sinatra and Noze to all find their place his “Soul for Rent EP.”
“I tend to get bored really quickly, so new ideas and experimentation is what keeps me going,” he says. “I think it shows in this EP.”
PMM032 “Soul for Rent EP” by Matthew Garton is now available for purchase exclusively on beatport.com for four weeks. Look for it to be available for purchase on iTunes by February 2009.
