Ghosts of Venice Debuts on Solid Bump Records

5 11 2010

Ghosts of Venice Debuts on Solid Bump Records
Lee Dunn (better known as Ghosts of Venice) has had a big year. He has lent his passion for jacked up disco house to a slew of official remixes including Grum’s “Can’t Shake This Feeling” and James Talk & Ridney’s massive Ibiza summer anthem “Forever”. In the coming months he will debut on Strictly Rhythm, which is a testiment to his sound. Solid Bump is proud to debut his first commercially available original track entitled “Her”. The song serves as a homage to the long days of a summer passed, with a highly swung laidback groove that keeps in perfect tow with the signature sound of Solid Bump.
The remix selection is a showcase of the exciting talent Solid Bump has in store in 2011, with a large portion of the label’s roster lending their spin on the single. White Girl Lust completely re-imagines the original as an epic piano house burner, complete with vocals from Alona. Chicago’s Bit Funk glosses the tune with his distinct synth-pop sheen. Meanwhile, Mix Chopin lives up to his name with a lively cut & paste session. The release is rounded out by the low-key vibes of Mykill & Meroz.

GoldSweat 2yr Anniversary @ Madrone (SF)

14 07 2010

I am honored to be playing at the 2 year Anniversary of GoldSweat. GoldSweat is a collaborative of DJs from around the country. My man Ryan Rosario (Just Loco) is an integral part of this collective. I met  Just Loco [http://www.clubninetyone.blogspot.com] during the Energy 92.7 Ultimate DJ Competition 2009. We quickly became friends at the preliminary battles where we both won. Unfortunately, both of us lost in the semifinals. Ever since then we’ve been trying to link up our crews. Finally, he has done it.

On top of that I get to play with the homie B-Cause. If you don’t know B-Cause, you should. Check out his blog…http://diamondsinthedust.blogspot.com/. He is an infuential dj and producer from the San Francisco Bay Area. His knowledge of music is incredible. Spanning from funk and soul and jazz to bay area slaps he has pretty much defined DJing around here alone and with his crew 4onefunk. I respect each and every one of them along with the GoldSweat crew.

I also really want to hear Shane King of Hacksaw Entertainment. I have never met him but have heard a lot about him and I know of Hacksaw. They put on quality shows here around the Bay. The first time I saw Jack Beats last August in San Francisco was because of them.

I don’t know what I am going to play yet at the anniversary but I’m really looking forward to it! Hope you all can make it out on the 30th of July. It is most definitely going be a hot event! Also, I hope Chubby Fingers collaborates more with all of these talented cats in the very near future.

Le Principle Joins Solid Bump Record’s 2010 Roster

5 03 2010

Solid Bump Records continues to build the anticipation of it’s 2010 roster with the announcement of another new addition, Le Principle. This young duo emerged in 2009 with an sound that paid homage to their native Chicago legacy of disco infused house, all while firmly pushing the envelope beyond what could be simply labeled a “throwback” sound. An initial fury of free releases soon caught the attention of music blogs worldwide, while also attracting the keen ears of DJs such as Louie La Roche, Kissy Sell Out, and DJ Ayres.

Most recently “You Can’t Fake It” has arose as a staple in Treasure Finger’s live sets. Le Principle will be featured on the second installment of Solid Bump’s wildly successful Pleasure and Pressure series (available March 16th at all major digital music sites).

Their debut single, Paper Cat (co-produced by OCD Automatic), will feature remixes by Sammy Bananas, The Phantom’s Revenge, Bit Funk, and more. Le Principle will also be appearing on Tommie Sunshine’s new Brooklyn Fire imprint, as well as the pinnacle of Chicago house labels, the infamous Trax Records.

For now, please enjoy this exclusive 320 MP3 entitled “You Can’t Fake It” to give yourself a taste of what is to come from the most exciting young act in the new era of infectious Chicago disco house.

King Britt- Now (feat. Astrid Suryanto)

5 03 2010

King Britt is very very talented. I’m feelin this track right here. Will work well for me in an early set. Check it out below. Cop King Britt’s “Intricate Beauty” on April 20, 2010 on Nervous Records.

King Britt- Now (feat. Astrid Suryanto)
http://www.mediafire.com/?nnkannn2gmm

We’ll cut to the chase. Intricate Beauty is the final “conventional” dance album King Britt will ever make. And how fitting this final chapter also marks King’s first ever release on seminal house music label Nervous Records. This is the seal of quality. Don’t worry, though, King Britt’s not going anywhere as an artist. He’ll be concentrating on more experimental based music and searching for new avenues to help push the live electronic improvisational end of performance. But for now, you have a real treat to behold with the Intricate Beauty. Eleven tracks of soulful rhythms constructed and mixed together like a grand jigsaw puzzle. Quintessential King.

Intricate Beauty pulls together the different sounds that have helped shape King’s dance DJ mind over the years. This is the story of what he loves to spin and how it all relates. In a sense, this is all the greatness of King Britt wrapped up under one disc. Like a physical incarnation of the intricate mind, the process of how this album was constructed is quite advanced. King based the album on tiny microsounds he procured from various random recordings and CDs. He then took all these tiny pieces and dumped them into Ableton Live where he sewed the puzzle pieces together. Once there were approximately 50 workable combinations of tracks he then constructed the songs musically. “In a few months I intend to release all the bits and pieces from Intricate Beauty as a “Live Pack.” These will be sounds that people can use for inspiration and production,” King says

Beyond the album, this is a period of great change for King Britt. Not only is he working in a new studio but he’s also cleansed spiritually; something that has also enabled him to enter into a new creative space with his newest venture Saturn Never Sleeps with multimedia artist Rucyl (www.saturnneversleeps.com/about) “When you find your path and stick with it, you’re bound to hit a pentacle period of productivity. I feel that in the next three years you’ll really see and hear many sides of me musically. Mentally, physically and spiritually I have grown multitudes and have a very clear understanding of who I am and what I’m here for. Many of the lyrics on the album express some of these ideas.”

It’s been 20 years on the music scene for King Britt and his projects, collaborations and affiliations are always truly mind-blowing. From his time as Silkworm in the groundbreaking, Grammy winning Digable Planets, to starting Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink, producing platinum remixes for Macy Gray, Solange, Donna Lewis and hundreds of others, winning the highest grant in the country as the first dj/producer, The Pew Fellowship or starting his empire, FiveSixMedia, King Britt still tries to live in the NOW and not the then.

“We have to surrender to uncertainty, while appreciating its intricate beauty” – Deepak Chopra

Exclusive: Max Morrell – Bump and Grind

5 01 2010

Got a gem in the mailbox a while back.   I believe it’s an exclusive from Max Morrell called “Bump and Grind”. I really like this track and what Max is doing with the dancehall/reggae  infused flavor. I’m also feeling the drums and  how the track runs and rolls along.

Speaking of bumpin’ and rollin’…I’ve been bumpin “Roll On” in my sets by Max as well.  If you havn’t copped that then do so quickly!  I can’t wait to see what else is in store from Max in 2010. Enjoy!
